One of the problems that came up when designing the steering mechanism was determining how to protect the steering motor from the user as the user would technically be able to resist the movement of the motor by holding onto/rotating the handlebars. Therefore, we decided to completely remove the existing handlebar system and add a secondary handlebar system that would be disconnected from the steering column. Therefore, the user would be able to keep stable when using the trike but would not be able to affect the steering.

To create the secondary handlebar system, we used 1” PVC pipe, 1” tee fittings, and 3D printed handlebars.
